Ankle And Foot Centers Supports Breast Cancer Walk

Hundreds Walk to Support Breast Cancer Research, and Ankle & Foot Centers Helps Them Reach the Finish Line

Ankle Foot Centers Breast Cancer Walk 2024Over two warm days in late September, more than 600 people came out to walk 30 miles through Atlanta to raise money for breast cancer research and support services. The team from Ankle & Foot Centers of America was right there with them, doing what we do best – providing care for whatever their feet needed.

For 22 years, we have been a proud sponsor of the Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer, providing on-site podiatric care for walkers. Our doctors Mindy J. Trotter, Osayamen Edigin and Joseph D. Giovinco – also the CEO of Ankle & Foot Centers of America – were on hand at the eight rest stops, treating everything from blisters to sprains to soreness.

“The event allows us to not only contribute to an important cause but also to provide much-needed care to participants along the way,” Dr. Giovinco said. His colleague Dr. Gregory Alvarez adds, “Our commitment to both expert foot care and community health makes this event an ideal way for us to give back while supporting a cause we care deeply about.”

Ankle Foot Centers Support Breast Cancer Awareness

Breast cancer is one of the most widespread and potentially devastating illnesses people face. One out of eight women is diagnosed with breast cancer at some time in her life, according to the National Cancer Institute. The most recent numbers from the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  show 272,454 new breast cancer cases in 2021, and 42,211 people losing their lives to the disease in 2022

The key to surviving breast cancer is finding it before the disease spreads to other parts of the body, and events like the Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer educate people about the importance of early detection of the disease. Mammograms can detect breast cancer before a tumor can be big enough to feel or cause symptoms.

Next year’s Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer will be October 4-5, and Ankle & Foot Centers hopes to be there again, supporting those walking for the cause. We are one of the largest groups of podiatrists in the United States, based here in the Atlanta metro area and with dozens of locations across Georgia.
